AKC/NSDTR CH HR Cinnstars Cherokee Flash AKC/NSDTR CDX NA WCX HL1 CGC VCX

Flash was everything to me. He did everything I ever asked him to and enjoyed every minute of his life. He was my Heart Dog. While there are other dogs that I have loved in the past, Dogs that I love now, and will not doubt love others in the future, There is only one Flash. Flash went to wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge at the end of June 2011 at 14 plus years. My heart aches for him. I miss him so much. Only the Rocks and the Mountians survive.

Tattooed with a flaming red, orange and yellow lightening bolt on his flank, The Flash is an Ian/Fox son from their second litter. I was determined not to make the same mistakes with Flash I did with Ian. Flash accordingly lived his life at 150% overdrive. Ian was an excellently trained, highly precise, but methodical worker. While The Flash was capable of precision with an AKC All breed Obedience High in Trial (The First Toller to Win an a High In Trial) from the Novice B class (First AKC Obedince Title), and two second places in Open A, he was more well known for his sliding stops into the ring gating while retrieving his dumbbell. He would stop on a dime on a 300 yard blind, but felt the heel to the line is more of a race to the mat (In All Age Retriever Stakes, the retrievers are run off a piece of carpet), and I am left behind. In short he was a true, wide open, All Age Retriever. He is typical that he could not believe that a mark could be only 50 yards away. Like my Canadian Field Trial CH Black Lab Buddy, Flash could come close to catching the bird if he broke on a very short mark. Flash has one First Place, and several other Open All Age picnic trial placements, but due to his PRA we had to retire him before he could compete in any AKC Field venue. But Flash was not a retriever that you could keep down, and started a new venue: Agility. Flash participated until his vision became so impaired that he was retired from all venues in 2005.

For all of his high drive, Flash was a congenial dog. He never met a person or animal that he did not want to call friend. There are some Toller people that feel that to perform at the highest level of Hunt Tests/Field Trials that the Toller has to have an edge or sharpness to its temperament. I totally disagree. You will not find a more aggressive retriever of any breed in the field then The Flash, and a totally non-aggressive dog toward other dogs, people or any other animal. The Flash was the kind of Toller that loves his toys, never tearing them up. He also liked to arrange them around our house in specific places. In South Carolina for a time Flash lived in the kennel with the force table in it next to the duck pen. He would sunbathe on the force table with one of his favorite plush toys; a lavender and pink full sized duck. The live ducks right next to him he totally ignored. So much for bad memories of the force fetch table and saying a dog is birdy getting excited over every bird they see. Flash knew when it was time to perform.

Flash has his Herding Instinct Level 1 title, and we had a few sheep around the place in SC. I have found that my best field trial Tollers also posses herding instinct. At the seminar it was interesting to see some of the Border Collies (and other breeds) with absolutely no instinct, and then here comes this Retriever who by his second lesson was getting the idea that you can control the sheep, not just select one to try to catch.

Flash has done well in the conformation ring acquiring his NSDTRC CH with three majors including a 5-point win. At the NSDTRC (USA) ’02 National Specialty he took a second in the Working Retriever Class, second in Open B Obedience, and completed the WCX test (he already had the title). In AKC competition, Flash from July 2003 to the end of September amassed 9 Best of Breeds, and 39 breed points. He was 2003 CC-Euk System Top Owner Handled Toller, toping this off by winning the 2003 AKC-Eukanuba Invitational Bred by Exhibitor Best of Breed. He was #7 Toller in 2003 CC-Euk System. At the '04 NSDTRC USA National he won 3rd place in the hotly contested Veteran Dog 7-10 year class.
The Flash currently stands with 8 different titled offspring, 4 CH titles, and 100 total ROM points with only 20 puppies on the ground. He needs two more offspring with any title to complete his ROM. Flash is at stud by private treaty to select Genetically Clear bitches via frozen AI. I have plans in 2016 to send a straw of his semen to be tested for all the other genetic tests. Litter number one was to Landew’s Aurora Borealis CD WC. Several of these pups proved themselves in the field and in the conformation ring. His second litter was to CH Sagewood's Jinger Snap CD WC ROM. Two of these puppies proved to be the hit of the '04 NSDTRC USA National. Dory WON the Puppy Sweepstakes, and Apache won the 6-9 Puppy Class and passed the WC. CH HRCH Apache CD RA SH WCX at 11 is getting ready for his CDX obedience title. Apache was Best of Winners at the 06 NSDTRC National, and has a Group 4th, owner handled. Flash's second litter was whelped in 2006 to CH Cumberland Pool of Jetstream CGC (Puddles). This litter had tremendous success in the Conformation ring. Splash was one of the top Tollers in 2008 and 2009 with multiple group placements, and several Group wins in both AKC and UKC. Three of the litter has their CH and another is CH pointed. I also shipped two units frozen to Austria. One unit is currently for sale. Sadly the bitch became sick before her pups were born and the litter perished in saving her life. His last litter was a frozen semen litter of two and one pup is doing well in performance events. Flash has shown he passes on his excellent temperament/field ability, excellent angulation front and rear, forechest, and dark red color to compatible bitches.
